Wat Lokkayasutha

This monastery is over a kilometer behind Wat Suanluangsopsawan adjacent to Wat Worachettharam.

Accessible by the road inside the compound of the Distillery Plant, or through the road behind the Phlapphla Trimuk (three-gabled roof pavilion), the monastery is in the area of the Ancient Palace. Proceed past Wat Woraphot and Wat Worachettharam until reaching the open-air site of the large reclining Buddha, which is made of brick and covered with plaster, is approximately 29 meters long. The ruins of large hexagonal pillars near the image are believed to be the ruins of the Ubosot.

Wat Lokayasutaram is located at Tambol Pratuchai, Amphur Pranakornsriayuttaya, Pranakornsriayuttaya. The location is near the Royal Palace and Wat Prasrisanpetch which are both the centers of the Ayuttaya Kingdom. Therefore, this is another important temple in Ayuttaya. This temple has another name called Wat Pra Norn. Inside the temple, there is the biggest reclining Buddha in Ayuttaya.

This temple was mentioned in the history as one of King Barommakote's travelling route. The reclining Buddha is a big white Buddha with the length of 42 meters and height of 8 meters. Even though it is very old, it is still in a perfect condition with glowing face beaming with happiness and the head is supported by a lotus base platform. This reclining Buddha is the attraction of the tourists both domestically and internationally. Moreover, there are also the ancient remains of a big building and the peristyle with the stupa at the height of 30 meters as the main stupa of the temple. Therefore, this temple is suitable for history lovers. The reclining Buddha is one of the heritages left from the war and also the pride of Ayuttaya people.
