Ban U Thong

Listed in our best seafood restaurants in Ayutthaya article, Ban U Thong is a popular place to get delicious seafood and, in particular, Ayutthaya’s famous giant freshwater prawns.

The restaurant is located south from the Ayutthaya Historical Park and for real (sea)foodies, a must-visit. One grilled River King Prawn costs you around 350 to 450 THB depending on the market price, but when you order a larger plate, the price per prawns drops slightly. The prawns are sliced open and then grilled and served with a spicy dipping sauce. You can easily scoop out the prawns with a spoon and a fork, but make sure to eat the orange part of the prawn as well. The slimy orange part is the brain of the prawn and this part has the most flavour of the prawn. Deep-Fried Common Sheet Fish topped with Curry (350 THB) and the Crispy Beetle Leaves and Spicy Salad (150 THB), but the fifteen-page menu has so many delicious options that you will easily find a tasty option for everyone.
