The Posh

The Posh is halfway between flashpacker hostel and boutique hotel, ideally located near downtown Bangkok and within easy reach of the international airport. Dorms and rooms are smart, modern and spotless but perhaps a little too compact for the price.

Style and Character

The Posh offers hotel facilities in a hostel context. The five floor property’s narrow stairways, corridors and the low-ceilinged reception feel a little cramped but the plain wood furnishings go some way to justify the hostel's name. The common area and small rooms have a boutique feel.

Service and Facilities

Service is friendly and helpful and staff will happily organise tuk-tuks or taxis for guests. The hotel’s common area, a smart, bright space with a pool table, free computer and kitchen corner where breakfast is served, is on the fifth floor. A few books and games are also available.

The common area opens onto the roof terrace which has great views of skytrains zipping past every couple of minutes. There’s a large and popular whirlpool tub from where the panorama is even more outlandish.

The Posh offers a good and competitively priced selection of half or one-day tour packages to its guests; from excursions to floating markets, cycle rides through the city both day and night, along with several day and overnight trips further afield to Kanchanaburi and the Erawan National Park.

Rooms

There’s a bewildering choice of air-conditioned sleeping options. The 10-bed dormitories are tightly packed but beds are comfortable and there are plug points and reading lights bedside. The upper bunk beds are accessible via a little stairway. One of the dorms is for female guests only.

Shared bathrooms are smart, clean and spacious with marble floors and large mirrors. Guests can also stay in so-called cabins, which offer the same space as a dorm bed with more privacy and a personal TV. Cabins with desks are really mini rooms. The double rooms are tiny and plain with wooden floors, TV, twin or double beds, a desk and fridge and views onto busy Phayathai and the skytrain station. These bathrooms are also compact but very smart with marble floors and large mirrors.

Food and Drink

There’s no restaurant. A simple breakfast buffet with eggs, hashbrowns, sausages, bread, fruit and cereals is served in the common area. Guests can help themselves to free water, instant coffee, tea, soft drinks, biscuits and cereals throughout the day. Phayathai has plenty of eating options, from restaurants to street food stalls.
