Amazing Thailand
Land of smiles

Sivatel Bangkok

The Sivatel is a simple and smart high-rise hotel in downtown Bangkok, close to public transport, foreign embassies and the city's shopping and nightlife districts. The rooms (all suites) are generous in size, the pool is one of the largest in the area. The restaurant serves delicious, organic western cuisine.

Style and Character

The décor in the 17th-floor lobby, which is open to the skies on three sides and features an outdoors terrace, is a little austere, though the views from the upper floors’ large windows are magnificent. With its slick, modern furnishings and contemporary Thai interior designs, the ambience is quiet and understated.

Service and Facilities

Service is prompt and forthcoming. At 72 feet in length, the Sivatel's infinity pool is among the largest in downtown Bangkok, with great views over the city and a bar. There’s also a gym offering regular aerobics, yoga and weight classes free of charge. A well-equipped spa offers a variety of massages and body scrubs.

Rooms

It’s all about the space at the Sivatel. All rooms are actually decent-sized suites, with wooden floors, soft bright colours and large flower motifs, located between the 17th and the 27th floors with incredible views of the surrounding cityscape. The standard Regal suites come with two televisions, a safe, coffee and tea maker and a minibar. The bathrooms are equally spacious, spotless and simple and some come with large tubs. The furnishings are quietly elegant and in fine condition.

Food and Drink

Serious dining takes place at the Porch Restaurant on the eighth floor next to the pool. The Porch serves great western food along with a few Asian dishes. Amongst the starters, the tuna and avocado tartar and the smoked chicken Italian kale salad are highlights, while a selection of Australian steaks and several intriguing seafood dishes, including grilled snowfish, are very tasty. The best location for a pre-dinner drink is definitely by the pool, either on a sun lounger or at a table, set back from the water and facing the Bangkok skyline.

On the ground floor, Café Jardin – a casual coworking space – serves a lighter mix of Thai and European dishes, and is popular among the local lunchtime crowd. The hotel's modest breakfast buffet serves both Asian and continental fare, from English breakfasts to fried noodles, and there are plenty of à la carte choices. The Sivatel works directly with farmers to source products free of pesticides, fertilizers and antibiotics, and 70 per cent of the hotel’s food offerings are organic. No plastic bottles or straws are used and most of the food waste and rubbish is recycled.
