Pattaya Seafood

Pattaya Seafood is one of the many very Thai-style eateries in the city, but one which makes the experience all the more enoyable for those not fluent in the local language. Combining great fresh seafood with friendly bilingual staff, this Thepprasit Road restaurant offers a genuine taste of Thailand.

'Thai-style', when it comes to restaurants, describes those places where the majority of the clientele are locals, where the recipes have not been modified or de-chilli-ed to make them more appealing to foreign guests, and where the emphasis is on ordering dozens of dishes and sharing them amongst a group of friends. This communal dining concept usually results in an almost cafeteria-like setup, with lines of large tables with bench seating. Pattaya Seafood is exactly like that.



It is also perfectly described by its name. The menu consists of mostly Thai seafood dishes, with the ingredients sourced from Pattaya-based fishermen. Fortunately, the names have been translated into English, with an actual description of the dish instead of just anglicising a Thai word. Each also comes with a picture, so you can always just point at whatever looks particularly appetising. The staff speak good enough English, though, that this approach to ordering need not be your first recourse.



Being locally-sourced, the dishes at Pattaya Seafood come at amazingly good prices, such as fresh oysters for 150 baht, grilled squid for 200 baht, stir-fried shark meat with red curry for 150 baht and, at the top end of the price range, spicy sea bass for 400 baht. We tried the stir-fried seafood which, at 150 baht, was great value, being a small platter of fresh, tasty, well-prepared prawns, squid and mussels, along with a spicy dipping sauce.



While the staff are very welcoming, friendly and accommodating – even going so far as to check up on you at intervals during your meal – Pattaya Seafood still primarily caters for Thai diners, whose tolerance for spice is significantly higher than that of most foreign visitors. For those who really love Thai food, however, this is a good place to enjoy a low-cost and genuinely local lunch or dinner. Furthermore, being practically directly over the road from the Colosseum Show Pattaya, it is conveniently-placed for a pre- or post-show meal.
