O Cha Rot Phuket – Noodle Soup in Phuket Town
O Cha Rot is an unassuming local restaurant, but it serves one of the best noodle soups in Phuket Town, so good that it made it to the Michelin Guide in Phuket.
The restaurant has no decoration whatsoever, white wall, stainless cooking station and stainless tables. Most travellers walk past the place without a second look, but we probably go to O Cha Rot restaurant about once a week!
Like most noodle soups in Thailand, the menu is basic, with just a couple of soups and noodle sizes to choose from and a few meatballs. The soup is, of course, served in plastic balls and the spoons and chopsticks are in a box on your table, just next to the usual basket of condiments: powdered chillies, vinegar, razor clam sauce and fish sauce. Since the signature broth of O Cha Rot is so simple and delicate, it is up to each customer to accommodate the soup to their taste.
The soups and the food
We usually enjoy three types of soups:
Sen Mee Look Chin Nua Sod (เส้นหมี่ลูกชิ้นเนื้อสด): Thin white vermicelli with meatballs, par-boiled beef served with bean sprouts in a clear soup.
Nua Puey (เนื้อเปื่อย): Double-boiled beef without noodles or vegetables.
Sen Mee Nua Puey (เส้นหมี่เนื้อเปื่อย): thin white vermicelli with double-boiled beef
The main restaurant in Old Phuket Town is the most popular, but there is another branch on the outskirts of Town, equally modest and cheap, but maybe not as good.
