Katathani Phuket Beach Resort on Kata Noi Beach
Katathani Phuket Beach Resort is a great and affordable hotel located on Kata Noi, one of the most beautiful beaches in the south of Phuket.
How is Katathani Phuket Beach Resort?
Built along a 450 meters sandy beach, this large but very well designed hotel can afford to offer a surprisingly large amount of rooms with real sea views.
The Location
Katathani Phuket Beach Resort location makes it a great base to explore Phuket island. From the hotel, you can easily spend the day exploring the beautiful south of the island. Nothing is far: the Phuket Big Buddha, Wat Chalong and the famous Karon Viewpoint are just a couple of kilometres away. From the hill above the hotel, you can enjoy stunning sunsets from the panoramic After Beach Bar restaurant.
Enjoy some beach hopping: Kata Beach and Karon Beach are just above the hill on one side, Ya Nui and Nai Harn, then Promthep Cape on the other. Most of the time, you can only play on this superb Kata Noi beach with such beautiful soft sand and clear blue water (at least during the high season). Kata Noi is isolated enough never to get crowded, and what can be better than spending a lazy day by the pool under the shade of those beautiful swaying palm trees.
The resort has two wings: Katathani and Katabhuri. Katathani wing with mostly Seaview Junior Suites and just next to it. Katabhuri Wing without ocean view but cheaper rooms and an immense pool. Katathani resort has six swimming pools, six bars and six restaurants! Surprisingly we never had the feeling we were staying in a large hotel, probably because of the vast garden stretching along the entire beach and immense coconut trees peppering the front of the hotel. Anyway, your eyes are too busy enjoying the tropical setting to notice it.
Our Room at Katathani Phuket
We stayed in a Junior Suite and could fully appreciate the fantastic location from the comfortable setting of our balcony. The rooms have been renovated and are spotless. The design is pleasing to the eyes, and the rooms are very functional, designed with the traveller in mind. We enjoyed the large working station, fast wireless internet connection, and the space for our luggage. The room features plenty of amenities, a bathtub and essential: lots of electric plugs! The seating area is vast and comfortable, so two people can relax and work at the same time.
Dining at Katathani Beach Resort
We only had time to enjoy two of the six restaurants available in the resort. Chom Talay serves an extensive breakfast buffet, and deciding what to pick among so many choices is a fun challenge, but we all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day! So one evening, we treated ourselves to La Scala, the Italian restaurant located above. We didn’t know what to expect as restaurants located inside the hotel are always challenging, often lacking culinary personality. But La Scala was a surprisingly great surprise, and the dinner was beyond expectation, the kind of experience you still talk about once back home.
A cosy atmosphere with dimmed lights, soft live piano playing in the background and friendly and courteous service set the mood. We just went with the waitress recommendations and ordered Ravioli Trio and ravioli with blue crab as appetisers. Both were delicious, especially the Trio with some truffle inside. We then had a ‘grilled Canadian black Angus tenderloin served with pink pepper sauce, grilled Eringi mushroom, sautéed spinach, grilled vegetables and baby potatoes. For last, we received a ‘first- seared fillet of grouper served with potato mash and a delicate Porcini mushroom cream. We enjoyed the dinner with excellent Italian wine. Verdict? If you stay at Katathani, you’ve got to have at least one dinner there!
Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to enjoy the romantic beachfront candlelight dinner at the beach restaurant. Too bad, it looked so perfect in this tropical setting: beach, palm trees, sunset! (Note that based on its popularity, better book early to get the best table along the sand and come around 6 pm to enjoy the sun setting on the ocean!)
Conclusion
There would be a lot to say about the Katathani; they even have their little night market! But to summarise it in a few words: don’t hesitate. Holidays are too short and too rare, so treat yourself to the best holiday experience you can get. A hotel right on the beach with great rooms and friendly staff is everything you need to make your holiday special.
