Bed Station Hostel

The Bed Station is a smart, sociable and lively hostel in downtown Bangkok, in spitting distance of a skytrain station, and ideal for guests wishing to explore the city. Good security, friendly staff and clean dorms and rooms make this an ideal stay for young solo travellers and couples.

Style and Character

The Bed Station has a young and cool inner-city youth hostel vibe. Red brick walls and smooth grey concrete dominate the public areas, dorms and rooms. The high-ceilinged lobby thumps with mellow dance music all day. The open mezzanine common area above it is a great hangout with bean bags, a popular PlayStation and computer terminals. It’s open around the clock. In contrast, the rooms and dorms from the second to fifth floor are an oasis of peace.

Service and Facilities

Service is friendly and switched on and staff will help guests book train tickets at no charge. A free map explains how to get from the hostel to other parts of the city. Guests can store their luggage free of charge for up to a month. Wi-Fi is available throughout the property and there’s a decent selection of books to peruse.

Guests are welcome to use the showers and common areas before they check in and after they check out. There's a coin-operated washing machine and dryer for laundry. Security cameras and key cards to the rooms and dorms make for a safe environment, especially for single female travellers.

The Bed Station offers a selection of day tours in and around Bangkok.

Rooms

In contrast to the common areas downstairs, it’s very quiet on the floors offering accommodation. The two double rooms are compact and windowless, but quite smart with walls and floors in a smooth concrete finish and decent lighting. The beds sit low on wooden frames, almost like futons, but are very comfortable. One has a spotless bathroom. A fridge, TV and safe complete the picture.

The dorms are compact; the beds all have reading lights and plug points and there are lockers. A couple of the dorms are female only.

The large, shared and clean bathrooms are on the fourth floor and soap, shampoo and hair dryers are provided.

Food and Drink

The Bed Station has no restaurant. Guests can enjoy a light breakfast of toast, jam, cereals, fresh fruit and tea and coffee. A selection of biscuits and other small snacks, along with tea and coffee are available throughout the day. Soft drinks and beer are for sale.

The best place for an early evening beer is the mezzanine common area.

Value for Money

Double rooms from 1550 Baht (£35) in low season; and from 1650 Baht (£37) in high, including breakfast. Dorm beds from 450 Baht (£10) in low season; and from 500 Baht (£11.10) in high, including breakfast. Free Wi-Fi.

Location

Two minutes’ walk from Ratchathewi skytrain station and close to Bangkok’s computer mall Pantip Plaza, the Bed Station Hostel is well located for shoppers and sightseers. It’s also a great place to stay before an early flight as the airport rail link terminal is only five minutes’ walk away. For those wanting to visit Khao San Road or the Royal Palace area, long-tail ferries leave from Hua Chang pier throughout the day, just three minutes away on foot.
