Style and Character

It’s all about space at this inner-city resort. From the glitzy lobby to the 9th floor pool terrace, everything is huge. The hotel’s public areas are furnished in subdued international style with plenty of classic Thai design elements. It’s not exactly cosy, but it does feel welcoming.

Service and Facilities

Service is switched on and very friendly without being intrusive or overwhelming. Facilities are excellent, as one might expect from a large, well-managed chain hotel. The ninth-floor gym is large and well-equipped and offers free yoga, Pilates and sports sessions. The main pool, with adjacent kids’ pool, is a little small for a hotel with over a thousand rooms. The sumptuous spa offers a variety of treatments including aromatherapy and Thai massage.

Rooms

The standard rooms are compact, carpeted and flawlessly furnished in grey and brown tones. They are a little sombre perhaps, but feature all the state of the art amenities – large mirrors, TV, JBL Bluetooth radio, a safe, tea- and coffee-making facilities and a minibar – that make for a comfortable stay. They also boast great city views. Chinese vases and Thai tapestries add a warm touch. The bathrooms are compact and spotless.

Food and Drink

The Marriot Marquis has four restaurants so foodies are unlikely to get bored. The excellent Goji restaurant serves all-day international cuisine and the evening buffet is out of this world, with great selections of Japanese, Indian, western and Thai dishes, along with desserts from around the world. The breakfast buffet is almost as expansive.

The Japanese Soba Factory serves freshly prepared soba noodles that should be eaten immediately after being served, as well as yakitori – succulent chicken skewers – while the Pagoda Chinese Restaurant offers classic Cantonese cuisine in salubrious retro-fitted surroundings. The all-day Siam Tea Room has a great menu of Thai classics along with a mouth-watering selection of pastries and of course teas. The spacious Lobby Lounge is the best place for a pre-dinner cocktail.

Value for Money

Double rooms from 5000 Baht (£114) in low season; and from 6500 Baht (£149) in high. Breakfast included. Free Wi-Fi.

Family-Friendly?

Parents with children over five years of age can take a breather at the pool or go shopping while their offspring is well looked after at the kids’ club which features climbing opportunities for the little ones and video games for older kids. There’s also a kids’ pool. Baby sitters and extra beds can be arranged and there’s a kids’ menu at Goji. The buffet at Goji is free for kids under seven and half price for children between seven and twelve.

Location

Phrom Pong sky train station is a five-minute walk or a short free shuttle ride away. The hotel sits adjacent to Benchasiri Park, which boasts a small lake and a jogging trail, and is in walking distance of the classy new Em Quartier shopping centre as well as the Emporium, one of the city’s stalwart luxury malls on Sukhumvit Road. The hotel is also close to new shopping and dining districts Thong Lor and Ekkamai.
